Health in Midlife and Older Adulthood
Heather Farmer will present in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences’ series
Join University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) for a colloquium with Heather Farmer, assistant professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS), from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in room 220 of Alison Hall.
Farmer’s research examines how biological, psychological and social processes affect adult health outcomes. She focuses specifically on the intersections of race, gender and socioeconomic status in producing health disparities in older adults. Her work also examines the socioeconomic, psychosocial and biological mechanisms responsible for such disparities, like how stress may contribute to inflammation or cardiometabolic dysregulation across the lifespan. She has also studied factors that protect health and well-being over time, like a strong sense of purpose in life.
Farmer’s colloquium is titled “Heterogeneity in Biopsychosocial Processes Underlying Health in Midlife and Older Adulthood.”
The colloquium, part of a year-long series hosted by HDFS, is free and open to the public, but advance registration is appreciated. To register, visit: http://www.udel.edu/0015096.
