Jason C. Garvey of the University of Vermont will present "QTPiE: Educating, Advocating, and Building Coalitions with Queer and Trans Communities in Education" on April 22, 2026.

Alum Jason C. Garvey of the University of the Vermont to present in the School of Education’s series

Join University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) for a colloquium with CEHD alum Jason C. Garvey, executive director for the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment and the Friedman-Hipps Green and Gold Professor of Education at the University of Vermont, from 1:50 to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in room 205 of Willard Hall Education Building.

As an interdisciplinary researcher, Garvey uses his expertise in student success, teaching and learning, education policy and statistics to merge data-informed decision-making with social change and impact in higher education. He is the principal investigator for QTPiE: Queer and Trans People in Education, a multi-institutional research team with a mission to educate, advocate and build coalitions that advance equitable policies and practices for queer and trans people in education. He is also a proud Blue Hen, having received his bachelor’s degree in educational studies from CEHD in 2006.

Garvey’s colloquium will explore how educators, researchers and advocates can transform learning spaces to honor the dignity and worth of queer and trans people. Drawing from stories, research insights and community collaborations, he will share approaches that dismantle silos, center minoritized voices and drive systemic change.

The colloquium, part of a year-long series hosted by CEHD’s School of Education, is free and open to the public. Audience members are also welcome to participate in a discussion with the speaker following the colloquium.
