A Warm Welcome

CEHD welcomed faculty and staff back to campus with a college-wide barbeque
With the help of warm afternoon sun and a late-summer breeze, University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) welcomed its faculty back to campus with a college-wide barbeque on August 27. Set at the Early Learning Center (ELC), the outdoor event gave faculty and staff the opportunity to socialize, welcome new members of the college, learn about its Children’s Campus and enjoy a cool treat from UDairy’s Moo Mobile.
Rena Hallam, CEHD interim dean and professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, greeted faculty and staff upon their arrival and offered brief remarks to welcome the entire college. As faculty and staff filled their plates, she encouraged them to strike up a conversation with a new colleague or explore CEHD’s three education centers for children. She also welcomed Interim Provost William Farquhar and members of his team, including his Interim Chief of Staff Regina Kinderman.
Children’s Campus directors Kelly Freel, Jessica Peace, Dorit Radnai-Griffin and Andrea Glowatz invited faculty and staff on tours of the ELC, the Lab School and The College School (TCS). With complementary educational missions and a commitment to family, community and University partnerships, each school offers vibrant indoor learning spaces—richly decorated with children’s artwork and photographs—and expansive outdoor playgrounds, mud kitchens and edible gardens.
Freel and Peace co-direct the ELC, which serves children six weeks through second-grade; Radnai-Griffin directs the Lab School, which serves children six months through kindergarten; and Glowatz directs TCS, which serves children in grades 1 through 8, including those with learning differences.
Before heading home for the evening, faculty and staff enjoyed a scoop or two of UDairy’s beloved ice cream, debating their favorite flavors, toppings and combinations.
CEHD community members are welcome to contact the Children Campus directors for future tours or opportunities for collaboration.
