A CEHD student shares research with others at the 2022 Steele Symposium.

College of Education and Human Development will host annual celebration of student research April 28

The University of Delaware College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) will host the annual Marion H. Steele Symposium on Friday, April 28, to share and celebrate the innovative research of its undergraduate and graduate students in education, human development and related disciplines.

Over the past 38 years, more than 450 undergraduate and graduate students have presented their research in this symposium. This year, the event will feature student presentations and poster sessions, remarks from Gary T. Henry, dean of CEHD and professor in the School of Education and the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration, a keynote address from Matthew Patrick Shaw, assistant professor of law and assistant professor of public policy and education at Vanderbilt University, and the presentation of student awards.

Shaw’s keynote address, titled “Much Ado about Critical Race Theory,” will share insights from legal disputes over the teaching and learning of critical race theory. The address will also share a legal framework that Shaw developed called the “public right to education,” which focuses on the relationship between the state’s responsibility for education and the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution.

The event will be held at Clayton Hall on UD’s Newark campus from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All UD community members are invited to attend.

This event is made possible through the generous support of the Steele Family in memory of Marion H. Steele, a UD alumna.
