Celebrating the achievements of women

The University of Delaware will celebrate Women’s History Month in March with a host of events and activities that honor the accomplishments of women. International Women’s Day — which is celebrated on March 8 — also offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, raise awareness for women’s equality and celebrate women’s achievements.

Attend a Women’s History Month dinner.

What: Hosted by the Biden Institute, the annual Women’s History Month dinner gives women on campus an opportunity to engage with prominent women leaders in Delaware representing career fields including law, politics, communications, business, journalism and more.

When: Thursday, March 12, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Trabant University Center Multipurpose Rooms.

Know this: Following opening remarks, students will have the opportunity to join smaller table discussions with leaders in a variety of interest areas.

Participate in a book giveaway.

What: In celebration of Women’s History Month, Student Diversity and Inclusion will give away What We Carry: A Memoir by Maya Lang and The Terrible by Yrsa Daley Ward. These two books offer powerful narratives that illuminate the lived experiences of minoritized women across different cultural and personal contexts.

When: All month.

Attend a workshop.

What: Craftivism — The Intersection of Craft and Activism: A Hands-on Workshop.

When: Thursday, March 12, 1-3:30 p.m.

Where: Morris Library.

Know this: The Department of Women and Gender Studies and Center for Material Culture Studies, along with visiting research faculty in the Department of Women and Gender Studies, Amrut Mishra, are hosting the workshop, “Craftivism — The Intersection of Craft and Activism: A Hands-on Workshop.” They will provide a history of craftivism, and participants will also be introduced to an assortment of craftivist objects from the Special Collections held at Morris Library. Participants will contribute to a group craftivism piece with a focus on advocacy and support for survivors of gender-based violence. Participants will decorate links for a paper chain which we will assemble into a decorative wall hanging.

Attend the Women Leading Delaware Education Conference

What: Women Leading Delaware Education Conference

Know this: The Women Leading Delaware Education Conference is a networking and professional learning event for all leaders in K-12 and higher education settings. The conference serves to address issues specific to women and leadership, as well as provide a powerful opportunity for leaders to convene for an impactful day of connection, introspection and inspiration.

When: Wednesday, March 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Clayton Hall

Who: Hosted by the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, housed within the School Success Center in the College of Education and Human Development.
