CEHD Assistant Professor Shares Insight on Gender Roles Among Black Adolescents

Roderick L. Carey, assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, was quoted in an NBC News article about “Brickgate” and the gender roles of Black men and women.

Carey shares that young Black boys are socialized to believe they must “be the bigger person” and “leaders” in their relationships with women, but that they may also feel conflicted in their roles as Black girls come of age and become more self empowered.
