Friendship House
Friendship House (FH) was formally created in 1988 as a nonprofit serving those experiencing homelessness in Wilmington, Delaware. More than thirty years later, FH remains a coalition of the faith community in service to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, at risk of becoming homeless, or struggling to find self-sufficient living. Understanding isolation caused by significant strife can lead to homelessness, FH strives to unite people facing homelessness to loving, supportive communities they can call home.
To do this, Friendship House runs four day time empowerment centers, 12 transitional houses, a clothing bank distribution center which hosts a job training program for women, a winter sanctuary program, and a weekly Sunday breakfast. They are also running the program at the New Castle County Hope Center, formally a Sheraton Hotel, which is now an emergency shelter.
