Pinkston Receives Presidential Award
In June 2012, Mary Pinkston was one of two graduates of UD to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching – the nation’s highest honor for math and science teachers. Pinkston, a math teacher at Brandywine High School, with a master’s degree in education from the University was among the 97 nationwide teachers selected for this award.
“These teachers are the best of the best, and they stand as excellent examples of the kind of leadership we need in order to train the next generation of innovators and help this country get ahead,” said President Barack Obama.
Pinkston has been an educator for more than 20 years in the Brandywine School District and currently teaches math to a richly diverse group of young people in grades 9–12. In 2010, she was selected as the Delaware State Teacher of the Year.
